On Friday Aug 21st, the 7th Grade Boys team won the outdoor Rockville Centre Summer Basketball Championship by beating St. Agnes 42-41 in overtime. After being down 13-2 in the first quarter, the team mounted an aggressive comeback with full court defensive pressure creating steals and scoring opportunities. The squad ran the fastbreak with pinpoint passing and execution any NCAA team would be proud of. Throughout the summer, the team was led by the slashing moves of Tom Tubridy, the outside shooting of Jonathan Granville, the speed of Colin DeAngelo, the defensive intensity of Bobby Clarke and the spot up shooting of Pat Gibbons. In addition, the team benefited tremendously from the rebounding of Conor Muldoon, the shot blocking of Lucas Hildreth, the inside presence of John Wotczak, the passing of Jack Capetola, the shooting touch of Michael McGuire and the defensive intensity of Owen Fisher. The team was coached by Tom Granville.

Subsequent to mounting a comeback in the championship game, the lead changed hands many times in the 4th quarter with the teams exchanging 3 pointers pointers in the last 35 seconds of regulation resulting in a deadlock. In overtime, the Garden City led team was down 41-40 with 9 seconds. A timeout was called and a play was designed. The play drawn up worked to perfection as Tom Tubridy drove the lane, kicked the ball to Michael McGuire and Michael hit the winning 16 footer with one second left to give this team its 3rd outdoor Rockville Centre Championship. It was certainly an exciting Friday summer night for this dedicated group of Hoopsters.
