Garden City Warriors with their trophies
Garden City Warriors with their trophies The GC Warriors battled through the heat and humidity this summer in the Glen Cove Mayor's Trophy Tournament, finishing second in the U8 National division with a 5-1 record, and third overall (out of 12 teams) with a 6-2 final record after splitting two playoff games last weekend.

The Warriors ran off four consecutive wins in a row to start the summer season — a streak that ended with a loss to a strong Ozone Park/Howard Beach Terminators team that went on to win the National division. After winning their remaining regular season game, the Warriors played the Plainedge Red Devils (the winner of the U8 American division) in the first round of the playoffs. While the Warriors held the Red Devil scoring machine to just 5 runs, they lost the first playoff game in a 5-3 nailbiter. Brushing off that tough loss, the Warriors faced the Terminators for the second time in three weeks in the remaining playoff game. This time the result was much different, with the Warriors securing a third place finish in the Tournament by beating the Terminators 11-3.

The 2008-09 GC Warriors are Mark DiPierro, Billy Duff, Matt DeSimpliciis, Tommy Powderly, Patrick Creaven, Liam Widell, George Germano, Layne Meyer, Evan Jozkowski, Joey Perrini, Garrett Going, John Murphy and Liam Joyce. The boys and their coaches want to thank the Warriors' parents for their support and dedication over the last twelve months. It was a lot of work getting the boys to practices and games, and we appreciate all you did for the team. Thank you parents, and congratulations Warriors!
