Wow!! What a great tennis season for the Garden City Casino Women's Tennis Program! The Women's B-1 team Captained by Lorraine O'Hanlon and Co-Captain Loretta Marcoux strategically positioned themselves in first place moving up to the A-2 level. The team practiced and played weekly matches both home and away with much dedication and tremendous effort. More ... Usually this time of year the fields at St. Paul's are somewhat deserted, with only the most dedicated of team's holding soccer practices under the tough heat conditions of the summer. But this year, several GC Centennials teams got together and decided to host a series of friendly matches in a few age groups as a pilot program. More ... The regular intramural game day season is expected to start Saturday, December 5th and run through March 6th, 2010. More ... The GC Warriors battled through the heat and humidity this summer in the Glen Cove Mayor's Trophy Tournament, finishing second in the U8 National division with a 5-1 record, and third overall (out of 12 teams) with a 6-2 final record after splitting two playoff games last weekend. More ... The Garden City Centennial Soccer Club will be opening their fall season on Saturday September 12th. Girls play 9:00AM until 1:00PM and boys play from 1:00PM until 5:00PM (with the exception of Kindergarten and 1st grade). The program runs for eight consecutive Saturday's with the exception of October 10th (Columbus Day Weekend). The season ends on November 7th. More ... On Friday Aug 21st, the 7th Grade Boys team won the outdoor Rockville Centre Summer Basketball Championship by beating St. Agnes 42-41 in overtime. After being down 13-2 in the first quarter, the team mounted an aggressive comeback with full court defensive pressure creating steals and scoring opportunities. More ... The Recreation Department is proud to announce its participation in the National Harris Cup Miniature Golf Tournament. Our qualifying tournament is being held on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Community Park and is open to all residents who would like to play. The fee to participate is $10. More ...
