The Garden City Retired Men's Club is a non-profit membership organization formed in April 1961 for the purpose of providing educational and recreational activities for the retired male senior citizens of the Garden City Community. The organization is non-sectarian and non-political.

All retired men 55 years or older residing in the Incorporated Village of Garden City, in the state of New York are eligible for membership upon paying a five (5) dollar initiation fee. If you are eligible and interested in joining us, please come by. Every Monday is Open House. Or call Joe Leto at 248-9022.

The Club House facility is located at No. 6 Golf Club Lane (directly behind Lord & Taylor parking lot). The building is open every day of the week, except Friday, and offers two regulation size pool tables, television, cards/table board games as well as outdoor bocce, horseshoes and shuffleboard. Our Program Committee is planning a very active speaker program. You are invited to join us!

In-House Party Time

Monday, September 14 this the date for our next In-House Party. Whether it is a piece of a hero sandwich or a sandwich you choose to make for yourself, either way it will be delicious. Rudy Kaiser, fresh from his ocean voyage on the Queen mary, will have a suitable hot dish for whatever your choose. come early, play a few hands of cards, shoot some pool or just relax. Drink stand opens at 12:30 pm, food served at 1 pm The cost $7.00 plus $2.00 for lucky bucks.

Are You Ready for Some Bowling???

Friday, September 11 this opening day for our bowling season. Dust off your bowling ball, stretch your muscles and get ready to throw some strikes. Join Ron Zwicke and his merry men at Herrill Lanes at 12:45 p.m. The exercise will be good for you.

Birthday/Cookout

On Thursday, September 17 th we will blow out the candles for our young 80 year old members and invited guests. We ask you to help celebrate with nine of our 80 year old celebrants. Send your check in the amount of $15.00 ($13.00 plus $2.00 for lucky bucks) to Dr. George Rivera, 14 first Street, Garden City, NY 11530. We also invite any Garden City male resident who will celebrate his 80 th birthday any day during 2009 to join with us as our special guest. Health And Fitness

Felicia will maintain the same schedule for another week or two, Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9:15 and 10:30 a.m. Classes are free and the exercise is great.

Speaker Program

George Salem has scheduled Richard Roche, a fellow GCRMC member to speak on Monday, September 21 st. As a member of the United New York Sandy Hook Pilots Association, Captain Roche, as a Harbor Pilot, was responsible for the safe entry and passage of huge vessels in and out of the New York Harbor, including aircraft carriers, ocean liners, and even a submarine or two. Captain Roche will speak on the duties and responsibilities of the New York Sandy Hook Pilot Association. It should be an interesting discussion for us all.
