POLICE REPORT: MISCHIEF AND MAYHEM
A LAPTOP computer was stolen from a Ring Road business on July 27-28. Its value was placed at $1000... LOCK THOSE VEHICLES! There were several larcenies from parked cars this week. Items were stolen from two First Street vehicles on August 24. In one case, the owner lost a watch and iPod, together valued at $700. In the other, an iPod and a charger were stolen, worth $300. On August 16-17 a charger and loose change were stolen from a vehicle on Transverse Road... AN UNLOCKED Raleigh bicycle was stolen from the side yard of a Transverse Road on August 20... A TOM TOM GPS unit was taken from a Jeep parked at a Franklin Avenue business on August 20... A PARK BENCH was stolen from a private home on Prescott Street on August 19... T-MOBILE was hit by a group of five thieves who snatched and ran with five cell phones on August 19. Losses were over $2000... THE GCPD CRACKED some cases of larcenies from cars parked at the Garden City Pool. Detectives Madden and Rothermel arrested two suspects for possession of stolen credit cards and identity theft when they attempted to buy goods at Sunrise Mall. The suspects were a male, age 47, and a female, age 24, from Howard Beach. The GCPD and the Nassau County Police expect that they will be able to resolve other thefts as well... A WOMAN FROM Lynbrook was arrested for Robbery 3rd degree by Police Officers Walsh and Touhy at Sears on August 18. She allegedly bit and punched a store security guard who was trying to apprehend her for an alleged larceny.

A BLUEBELL COURT homeowner was advised by the Garden City Fire Department not to burn papers in his outdoor chiminea on August 20... FIREFIGHTERS extracted a passenger from a car involved in a motor vehicle accident at 9th Street and Franklin Avenue on August 21... THE FIRE DEPARTMENT was called to a Roosevelt Street home on August 21st after a tree fell on the house. Fortunately, there were no injuries. The Department of Public Works also responded to the scene... ANOTHER TREE was blocking the intersection of Stewart and Clinton on August 22... THE FIRE DEPARTMENT responded to a fire in a clothes dryer on Stewart Avenue on August 24. The fire had been extinguished before the arrival of firefighters... A PERSON TRAPPED in an elevator at 975 Franklin Avenue was rescued by firefighters on August 24... AN AUTOMATIC alarm at Adelphi University on August 24 was triggered by a faulty light ballast on August 24... A REPORT OF A car fire on August 24 at Poplar Street and Prospect Ave. turned out to be just an overheated engine... THE FIRE Department cleaned up a spill from a motor vehicle accident on August 24 at Stewart Ave. and Lee Road.
