Troop 56 Camps Out
Troop 56 enjoys the camp
This summer 25 scouts and 13 adults from Boy Scout Troop 56 in Garden City spent a week at Onteora Scout Camp in the Catskill Mountains in upstate New York. The camp is owned by the Theodore Roosevelt Council of Nassau County. The scouts slept in tents, and enjoyed campfires, fishing, hiking, star gazing, and games. During the day the scouts learned skills and earned merit badges such as Environmental Science, First Aid, Cooking, Wilderness Survival, and Woodcarving, among many others. In their free time some of the scouts built a gateway to the campsite out of logs and rope lashings. The gateway was sturdy enough to support the weight of several scouts. Other scouts carved a totem pole. Summer Camp is just one of several activities the troop has going on during the summer, as it gears back up for a fresh scout year come September.
