      The following SUNY Potsdam students recently have been recognized for their achievements, either by being named to the Dean's List or President's List or awarded a degree and indicating honors, if any. Gregory Krajci of Garden City was named to the President's List. He is the son of Edward Krajci and is a Performance Music Major.

Summer Fun At GC Nursery School
      Since the end of June, the children at Garden City Nursery School's Summer Program have been enjoying a wide variety of activities. Using the theme "Under the Sea," the teachers and counselors have incorporated all sorts of media to engage the children. They've sang songs, recited fingerplays and poems, and listened to stories about fish, whales, sharks and turtles.

Perfect Scores In Latin Exam
      Garden City High School's Latin students performed exceptionally this year on The National Latin Examination. Out of 72 high school participants, 70 won a medal or certificate! There were 24 Gold Medal winners (Summa cum Laude); 20 Silver Medal winners (Maxima cum Laude); 10 Magna cum Laude Certificate winners and five Cum Laude Certificate winners.

GCHS Students Participate In Rescue
      On April 25 the Voices4Africa Club of Garden City High School organized an assembly at the school. The purpose of this assembly, according to co-founders Christie Mongiardo and Emily Monaghan and their advisor Sandra Cardilicchia, was to introduce students to Invisible Children; a media based, non-profit organization dedicated to ending Africa's longest running war.

Garden City Scouts Gold Awards Ceremony
      Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray (left, back row) recently attended the Garden City Scouts Gold Awards Ceremony held at Garden City Middle School. The Gold Award, Girl Scouting's highest honor, is earned over a three-year period and requires over 100 hours of community service.
