Eleanor Loranger Jacobs
Eleanor Jacobs grew up in Detroit, Michigan as the middle daughter of Lillian and George Hubbard. She graduated from Michigan State College with a degree in sociology. In 1935, Eleanor moved to Garden City as a newlywed. Here she raised her two children, Franklin C. Loranger, Jr. and Laurel Loranger Lawton.
When the Saks Fifth Avenue store opened up on Franklin Avenue, Eleanor was hired as the Executive Personnel Director. She always spoke fondly of those that she worked with and enjoyed her experience there.
Eleanor loved to travel and often shared stories of her journeys. Her favorite was sailing across the Atlantic on the SS Olympic, the sister ship of the Titanic. Garden City always held a special place in her heart which prompted her to move back after some time away. Most recently, she was living in Bonita Springs, Florida near her daughter, Laurie.
Known lovingly as "Nanel" by her 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, she will always be remembered for her positive spirit and everlasting warmth. In honor of her memory, Eleanor's family will be planting a tree at the Garden City Bird Sanctuary.
