The Cherry Valley Club's 2009 ladies golf member-member tournament kicked off on Tuesday, July 7th. In this flighted, handicap event three flights of golfers competed over the course of two weeks, some getting shots, some giving shots, all with the hopes of being the last team standing.

In Flight I Maxine Cunningham and Linda O'Grady came out strong and won both their first and second rounds against the teams of Jane Hutter and Mary Werner and Caryl Mundy and Irene Davis who took them to the 18th hole in their second round match. The Mundy-Davis duo previously defeated the always tough team of Kathy Mabry and Chris Rothschild. In the bottom half of the draw Brook Confort and Alicia Melchionni had a first round victory against Marilyn Corcoran and Pat Finnican with Confort making five birdies along the way to a 78. Also in the bottom half of the draw Joy Kohart and Connie Mc Glynn got by Liz Frumberg and Diane Brady in their first outing. Joy had a spectacular score of 89! Joy then had to play by herself in the second round against the Confort-Melchionni team after Connie Mc Glynn broke her wrist while playing tennis. Joy had two momentous chip-in birdies before succumbing on the 15th hole! The final round match up between Cunningham-O'Grady and Confort-Melchionni ended on the 16th hole. Alicia Melchionni's two birdies and super score of 86 helped cement a victory for team Confort-Melchionni, the Flight I winners!

JoAnn Ricca and Peg Stefano were the big winners in Flight II. They faced Nancy Peretz and her partner Jeanine Weber in first round action and then went on to defeat Stephanie Dobrinin and Adele Fialcowitz (who had a first round win over Sheila George and Jo Keller) to get to the third and final round where they proved victorious against Lenore Beesley and Joan Lindon. On their way to the finals Beesley-Lindon topped Linda Coffey and Dodi Caliari then bested Mary Mc Loughlin and Judy Cashman who earlier came out on top in their first round match against Kathy Spieler and Sue Pohmer.

The team of Betsy Lane and Susan Sadlier were the big story in the third flight. They began their odyssey with wins against the teams of Ceil Ingrassia and Molly O'Grady and then Anne Sardelis and Rose Ollendike who previoulsy won against Lynn Pisani and her partner Marilyn Krupnick. They then found themselves in a tough final round match against Mary Gallagher and Pat Pavlides who defeated Carol Finnerty and Marilyn Gannon in the first round and in the second round Karen Vincenzini (who shot a spectacular 99) and Marcia Kelly . Vincenzini -Kelly bested Betty Kraus and Terry Casale in their first round battle. Lane-Sadlier proved victorious but only after Gallagher-Pavlides took them to the 20th hole!
