Back in 2003, Broadway Bound, a dance studio located on Merrick Road in Valley Stream, won the Broadway Cup, Access Broadway's East Coast trophy awarded to the best overall studio. Since that time, owner and director of Broadway Bound, Debbie Tavernese, a resident of Garden City, opened a second location on New Hyde Park Road in Garden City. Now, after June's dominating performance in Nevada, Broadway Bound is the proud custodian of the Las Vegas Cup. The trophy is hand made out of stainless steel and brass, and is topped off a silver Tiffany Revere bowl. Standing over 3 1/2 feet tall, the Las Vegas cup weighs in at 45 pounds!

At the Access Broadway competition, students participate in dancing, acrobatics, singing, and acting. For each genre and age division, the top three routines are selected and given points. In order to win the national title, a studio must accrue the most points throughout the entire event. This year in Las Vegas, Broadway Bound compiled an amazing 27 first place awards, sending them their way to the title of Best Studio. Another highlight of the competition was Broadway Bound's Assistant Director Aileen Bjelland winning the title as Best Choreographer for her contemporary routine, Blind Winter.

In addition to the Nationals, this spring Broadway Bound also took honors at USTD, Dance Rave and IDC, winning choreography, dance challenges, and overall top placements. Congratulations to Miss Laura, Miss Aileen and Miss Debbie.

Celebrating their 15th anniversary in Valley Stream and their 5th at Garden City, Broadway bound offers classes in tap, jazz, ballet, modern, lyrical, hip-hop and acrobatics to students 2 1/2 years of age thru adult. Broadway Bound students have gone on to dance in commercials, Nickelodeon, the Citrus Bowl and even Broadway.
