Behind the 5 2/3 innings of pitching by Brett Stewart the GC 12s clinched the D29 title with an 8-5 win over Franklin Square. Brett struck out five and picked up his 2nd win of the tournament. Justin Samardich was a sparkplug as usual going 2 for 2, with a walk and scoring 3 runs. John Dehler hit his 2nd home run of the tournament and collected 2 hits and 3 rbi's. Richie Mattone and Luke Zeccola had 3 hits each and Nick Giannone added 2 hits. In the last of the 5th of a 4-4 game GC rallied with 2 outs. Brian Goepfert was hit by a pitch, then Bobby Clarke, Justin Samardich, Richie Mattone, John Dehler and Luke Zeccola all collected hits to push 4 runs across. During the game, GC shut down two FS rallies with plays at the plate by Nick Giannone and Brett Stewart. Luke Zeccola made several stellar fielding plays at shortstop. Mark DeSantis came on in relief to get the final out with the tying run at bat. The 12s swept thru the district, averaging 10 runs per game with a .515 team batting average, including 8 homeruns. The 12s play next in Manhattan vs District 23 at Peter Stuyvesant LL field at 2:00 pm saturday July 25th.
