The Garden City Centennial Soccer Club will be opening their fall season on Saturday September 12th. Girls play 9:00AM until 1:00PM and boys play from 1:00PM until 5:00PM (with the exception of Kindergarten and 1st grade). The program runs for eight consecutive Saturday's with the exception of October 10th (Columbus Day Weekend). The season ends on November 7th. More ... The SAA Nassau Suffolk Committee has established the 'Swim Across America- Stacey Leondis Fellowship ' at the Children's Hospital at Montefiore, Bronx, N.Y. for research into the development of a targeted therapy for osteosarcoma, an adolescent bone cancer. Stacey Rose Leondis, a GCHS '03 graduate, passed away July 21, 2008. More ... It was a hardcore group of fourteen footballers and three coaches that left from St. Paul's at 8 AM on July 12th and set off for a week of team training at Lake Placid Soccer Centre (LPSC), held at St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY. The bags were packed, luggage was loaded and ample snacks were on hand as the vans departed for the eight hour trip to Canton. More ... It was an early, muggy, cloudy Saturday morning in the middle of July. The Garden City Swim Team(A) prepared for their second dual meet of the season against Clinton G. Martin. By the start of the meet, the sun came out and shined once again on the GC swimmers. They took their second win in a row with a final score of 218 to 107. More ... Behind the 5 2/3 innings of pitching by Brett Stewart the GC 12s clinched the D29 title with an 8-5 win over Franklin Square. Brett struck out five and picked up his 2nd win of the tournament. Justin Samardich was a sparkplug as usual going 2 for 2, with a walk and scoring 3 runs. John Dehler hit his 2nd home run of the tournament and collected 2 hits and 3 rbi's. More ... GCAA, an entity that has been running sports in Garden City for over 50 years, is now accepting applications for the 2009-2010 basketball season. The application can be downloaded from the GCAA website, www.gc-aa.com Please sign up early as the number of registrants will determine the amount of court time GCAA receives. More ... This team has been such a pleasure to coach, every girl brought something special to the team that made every game a joy to be involved in. They helped one another when needed and cheered each other throughout the game. Many of girls played positions that they never played before and did very well. The fielding was outstanding, the pitching was great and the hitting was timely. More ... The team played strong all year, they were solid competitors and good sports, and most importantly had a good time throughout the season. Well done Boston College!
