Second Grade Pen Pals Finally Meet

2009-07-24 / School

During this past school year, Mrs. Tia Albig's second grade class from Stratford School in Garden City teamed up to be pen pals with Mr. Leary's second grade class from Cherry Lane School in Carle Place. Throughout the year the children learned about each other by writing friendly letters. During the holiday season, the students from both classes even sent their pen pals gifts.

The day after Memorial Day, the students from Mrs. Albig's class travelled by school bus to the next town to finally meet their pen pals in Mr. Leary's class. After meeting, the children interviewed each other while Mrs. Albig and Mr. Leary took pictures. Next, they completed a Venn diagram comparing and contrasting their similarities and differences. They enjoyed a snack of yummy brownies and delicious chocolate chip cookies. Later, they took a trip to the Cherry Lane Library. The pen pals spent time in the library reading books and talking about keeping in touch during the summer. Before they knew it, it was time to say goodbye. Mr. Leary gathered all of the children together and Mrs. Albig took the group shot pictured here.

This was a fun-filled, educational adventure for all!
