A Community Is Its History

Recently, we have featured several articles about the accomplishments of several local senior citizens. Last week we had an article about Margaret Werber Gilman, who is to receive a Congressional Gold Medal for her work during World War II as a female pilot.

That story was suggested to us by a reader, and we found it to be a fascinating one. Many of Garden City's older residents have led very eventful lives, whether during war or in industry or volunteer work.

During these quiet times of mid summer, we would like to bring some of those stories to the attention of the rest of Garden City. If have any family members or know of any residents who have interesting stories to tell (and who wouldn't mind being interviewed) please drop us an email at editor@gcnews.com and let us know.

By the way, it strikes us that doing a community history project based on interviews with the Village's seniors might make a very nice Eagle Scout or Girl Scout Gold Award project. Again, if anyone is interested and we can be of assistance, please let us know.
