2009-07-17 / School

Dr. Peter Osroff (at left), principal of Garden City Middle School, was presented the Nancy Maher Maxwell Award by SEPTA's Executive Board at the June 16, 2009 meeting of the Garden City Public Schools Board of Education. The award was created several years ago in memory of the former head of Pupil Personnel Services, Ms. Nancy Maher Maxwell, and is bestowed in her honor to an individual who goes beyond his or her job responsibilities to help the special education students in our district.

SEPTA Executive Board President Tina Halvatzis (right) presented the award to Dr. Osroff with the following testimonial:

"While many professionals in our district go beyond what they are asked to do for special education students, Dr. Peter Osroff takes his commitment to the special education population one step further. Dr. Osroff has continually advocated over the past years for the special education students in his building to make sure that they are given the academic support and socialization skills that they need to be successful. Dr. Osroff always makes himself available to discuss and find solutions for any concerns which are raised. The SEPTA Executive Board would like to commend Dr. Osroff for his thoughtful and enlightened perspective regarding the role and mission of special education programs. Dr. Osroff is an educator who understands the enduring purpose of public education, and his statements and actions display a high level of professional integrity and objectivity. We thank Dr. Osroff for all he has done for special education students and are pleased tonight to present the Nancy Maher Maxwell Award to Dr. Peter Osroff."
