Connie Deckel, Kings Store Manager. The Kings Supermarket graciously offered the opportunity to display original art done by children and adults who participate in programs at ucpn in its Garden City store for the month of July. The art incorporates a "red, white and blue theme" to tie-in with the July 4th and a spirit of patriotism. The UCPN has been assisting individuals with disabilities since 1948. Today, this non-profit agency assists close to 2,000 children and adults with disabilities and offers support and guidance to their families. The UCPN is headquartered in Roosevelt and operates about 19 residences in various communities throughout Nassau.

Bob McGuire, UCPN Executive Director expressed his thanks and appreciation to the management of Kings for their support and this great opportunity for UCPN to reach the community of Garden City in this unique way.

Art therapists at the agency, Laura Buechler and Sam Alexander, along with Ilena Koffsky of Adult Day Services and teachers from the Children's Learning Center (CLC) the school for children with disabilities at UCPN, worked with the consumers and came up with a patriotic art exhibit of work by children and adults and other unique handmade crafts to display. Posters featuring the CLC Ballet Club in their red, white and blue sailor costumes adorn the register areas where customers are invited to make donations to UCPN. The Ballet Club is made up of girls ages 4 - 12 who are all challenged by disabilities. They recently held their very first ballet recital and enchanted the entire audience as their twirled and danced in their sparkling costumes, some using walkers or wheelchairs, showing off the results of all their hard work hard during the previous year.
