Thanks To Volunteers

To the Editor:

On Friday, July 3, at 5pm, an unlicensed 16 year-old driver, with a 3 year-old in her car, drove an SUV across my lawn and into the side of my house. As the driver tried to leave the scene, she hit another vehicle and flipped over. Luckily for everyone involved, there were three volunteer firefighters on the same street who were able to pull the driver and the child out of the SUV and assist the driver of the other vehicle.

In addition, these men assisted the police and safeguarded my home until I returned several hours later. I would like to thank Neil O'Malley, Chief Charles Cavarro and Joe Moody for all of the effort that they put forth, not just in this isolated incident, but each time one of our Village residents needs help. I urge everyone in our Village to support and thank our volunteers.

Thank You TMA

To the Editor:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Garden City Men's Association for hosting the Class of 2009 Pool Party for the graduating GCHS seniors. The party was attended by 200 students and was a huge success. This was a new format that was created as a result of the cancellation of the Adelphi Dinner dance, formerly hosted by PTA. The newly formed committee combined both events at the pool so the graduates were able to enjoy an evening of dancing, dining and swimming.

This particular class has had to deal with many changes in their 4-year high school experience (3 principals in 4 years, cancelled PTA involvement in the pool party, cancelled PTA sponsored Adelphi Dance, changes to graduation date and time). Because of all these changes, this year's graduating class was especially appreciative of the Men's Association's continued support and generosity in hosting this wonderful tradition. The class of 2009 has shown that given high expectations and clear direction, events can be held that are both FUN and SAFE. These students have worked hard and achieved great successes - not only academically, but on the fields, in the arts and in providing community service. We are proud of them - they earned the right to celebrate their achievements. Best wishes to the class of 2009, and thank you to TMA for continuing a tradition that will be enjoyed by many classes to come.
