Police Report: Mischief and Mayhem
On June 29, a motorist described as a male, black, 5'7" tall,weighing 200 lbs., and wearing dark clothing allegedly filled his gas tank at the Mobil Gas Station at Franklin Avenue/Main Street and drove away with the car still hooked up to the pumping station. The nozzle for gas was still attached to his car and hit another customer at another pump, knocking that man unconscious. The thief made out with free gasoline at $43.37 and the partial license plate on his car reads: 1866. Detectives are investigating… On June 30, between 6:25 a.m. and 4 p.m., a $100 bike was taken from the Garden City railroad station bicycle area. The bike was locked… Hempstead police required Garden City Police assistance, in a shooting on Wellington Street, east of Clinton Road on that same day. The victim had non-life treating injuries and a man described as Hispanic driving a Nissan Maxima is being sought for the crime… Between June 30 and July 1, there were two larcenies from cars parked at Third Street. Two Apple IPods valued at $400 each were taken from one car, and a window was broken on the other. $200 damage… A $100 Tom Tom GPS was stolen from a car parked at Hilton Avenue, during the same time frame… A glove compartment was rummaged through after thieves broke a passenger side window of a car parked on fifth Street, between June 30 and July 1… A 37-year old Brooklyn woman allegedly shoplifted a $198 dress and a $76 Muchacha dress at Lord & Taylor on July 4… On June 30, someone broke a $100 window of a 1995 Toyota parked at the Stewart Manor Railroad Station… Between July 6 and 7, three bikes valued at $900 were stolen from Second Street… Between July 3 and 5 someone threw an egg at a front window at Chestnut Street… P.O. Oswald arrested a 23 year old Westbury man for alleged DWI (.09%) at Clinton Road. On July 5… A 58 year old Valley Stream woman, an employee at Lord & Taylor, allegedly rang up a sale for $203, on July 4, which allowed a customer and her alleged friend a 62-year old Cambria Heights woman, to exit the store with $172 in Merchandise, instead. The ladies were arrested for grand larceny… Credit cards were taken from a wallet left in a glove compartment of an unlocked car parked at the Garden City Pool on July 5… A $300 Trek Mountain Bike was stolen from the Garden City Railroad Station on July 6… Between July 6 and 7, a GPS and IPod, were taken from a car parked at Franklin Avenue…

A water problem occurred at a Roosevelt Avenue house on July 1… Fire Department disconnected the electric to a refrigerator at a Pell Terrace house on July 2… A power line came down at a Second Street residence on July 2… Minor damage to bushes occurred after a 2-car accident at Commander Avenue on July 3… The feed to a light ballast was disconnected at a Franklin Avenue office on July 6…
