GCPD Offers Burglary Prevention Tips
      The Nassau County Police Department reports that a particular group of organized transient criminals commonly known as "Gypsies" are perpetrating a series of burglaries and scams throughout Nassau County. The "modus operendi" of these mostly Eastern Europeans is to drive in groups in a particular residential area in a car or van usually with out of state registration plates.

Garden City Bird Sanctuary's First Annual Benefit Yard Sale Is A Success!
      The Garden City Bird Sanctuary, in conjunction with the Garden City High School's Help Our Planet Earth (HOPE) Club, held its First Annual Benefit Yard Sale. Thanks to the generous donations by residents, there was a multitude of items available for sale. This event was so successful that it will become an annual event. It raised money for the Bird Sanctuary and the World Wildlife Fund.

      The Gold Award is the highest award that can be earned by Girl Scouts, the award is comprised of many components and can take up to 3 years to complete. Girl Scout Troop 1443 has been together since 1st grade,and they are all now working diligently towards their Gold Award. 1981 Time Capsule Found - Looking For Participants!
      During the current construction project at Village Hall, a Time Capsule buried in 1981 was found! The Time Capsule was buried by a local Girl Scout Brownie Troop who invited community to write letters to themselves, to be mailed when the time capsule was dug up. There are over 140 letters and we're trying to track down the current addresses of the recipients.

Anniversary Of Aviation Milestones Celebrated
      This year, Garden City celebrates the 90th anniversary of two important aviation milestones in which the Village was directly involved. Both concerned that early aviation dream of crossing the Atlantic Ocean. This achievement was first accomplished in May, 1919 by the famed NC 4, a seaplane made by Curtiss Aircraft in Garden City.

      Long Island Blood Services will hold a blood drive at The Garden City Public Library on Monday, July 27th from 2PM to 7:30 PM. The bus mobile will be parked at 60 Seventh Street, outside the Library. Over 800 pints of blood are needed every day to meet the needs of patients in over 50 Long Island hospitals.

      Susan Bazzicalupo will be coming to the library for a day of "delicious" programs on Tuesday, July 14. Cookie Decorating, a program for children ages 21/2-5 (and an adult), will meet at 10:00am. Children who will be entering Grades K-2 in the fall can Make and Eat Ice Cream at 1:00pm., while those entering Grades 3-5 will have their own ice cream program at 2:00pm.

Wii Night Held for Teens At The Library
     The Garden City Library's first "Wii Night for YAs" was held on Monday evening June 29th. The Young Adult Department was able to borrow a Wii system to use for this fun interactive gaming program on the first Monday night of the summer. A group of teens is pictured enjoying the competition among their "Miis". Participants were invited to bring a favorite game to play on the Wii system and shared refreshments.
