SUMMER PARK PROGRAM ANNOUNCED Did you know that each of our neighborhood parks runs a playground program every summer? Children entering 1st through 8th grades who are residents of the Village are invited to come to the park during the summer to find out what activities are taking place.
This activities, except for the trips, are free to anyone attending that is a resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City. Registration is not necessary. A child may attend any day he or she chooses. The children are supervised while in the park but the children attending must be able to come and go to the park as they please or a parent or childcare provider must be in attendance while the child participates. This program can not used as babysitting. Activities begin around 10 a.m. each day, Monday through Friday. Come meet your park directors and their staff. Only cash will be accepted for payment. Mad science camp We have opened another session of Mad Science - Secret Dectective. This session will take place July 27 through July 30 in the afternoons from 1 to 4 pm. The cost of this camp will be $169. For further information or to register, please visit the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Avenue. adult yoga - summer session Our summer session of Adult Yoga is beginning on July 1 st. We will offer two choices of classes - Wednesdays beginning July 1 at 10:30 a.m. 7 weeks for $35 Mondays beginning July 6 at 7:30 p.m. 7 weeks for $35 For further information or to register, please visit the Recreation Offices at 108 Rockaway Avenue VOLLEYBALL CAMP This camp will provide instruction in skills necessary to compete in the sport of volleyball. Our staff will run separate boys' and girls' in order to tailor the program to the different rules of the game. The children will learn proper techniques in serving, hitting, and passing and well as the aspects of the game. This camp will be held in St. Paul's Field House and is open to any resident of the Village of Garden City who is entering grades 6-12 in September. When: Volleyball Camp July 6 - 9 9 - 11:30 a.m. Where: St. Paul's FieldhouseCost: $ 90 COMPUTER WORKSHOPS FOR KIDS Our Computer Workshops are running by Sharper Training Solutions, a company that we have used for years with our senior population. The children's program we are setting up through them will cover topics that are useful in everyday life and enjoyable to the age group. All about Computers for pre-teens This four week program is designed to teach basic computer applications to the younger child including Power Point, Desk Top Publishing, and more! We will meet for four Tuesdays (dates above) and move through the topics according to the abilities of the children.Fee: $75 EQUIPMENT NEEDED: Flash Drive 11 - 1 p.m. for ages 9 - 12 July 14 -Photo Shop July 21 -Web Design July 28 -Music Video August 4 -Computer Animation For the older child. Each topic will finish in their two hour time block. Feel free to pick and choose your topics, or sign up for all four workshops! The Recreation Department offers an array of camps for ages 4 - 16, including but not limited to Lacrosse, Soccer, Baseball, Field Hockey, Computers, and others. REGISTRATION FOR SPRING/SUMMER ADULT TENNIS BEGINS The Garden City Recreation Department will conduct evening tennis lessons for adults who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City at the Community Park Tennis Facility. The lessons will run for one hour each week in three sessions during the spring/summer months. The registrant has a choice of a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday class and a choice of time. There will be a maximum of four players per court. The dates and fees will be as follows: Session 1 - 6 weeks beginning May 4 Cost $120 Session 2 - 4 weeks beginning July 6 Cost $80 Session 3 - 4 weeks beginning August 3 Cost $80 To register, please visit the Recreation's Administrative Offices at 108 Rockaway Ave. (St. Paul's Athletic Complex) by April 21.
