GCHS Students Receive Recognition
Kevin Gallant, Meghan Reddington, Alicia Reddington and Ryan Gallant with YAPP Coordinator, Beth Sarnoff and Nassau County District Attorney, Kathleen Rice On May 29, the Nassau County Youth Board held its 30th Annual Graduation and Recognition Ceremony. Among those who received certificates for their outstanding service to Nassau County Youth Board's Youth to Adult Participation Program (YAPP) were 12th grader Alicia Reddington, 11th grader Ryan Gallant, and 9th graders Meghan Reddington and Kevin Gallant. Ryan Gallant and Meghan Reddington were asked by the Youth Board Coordinator to give speeches about their experience as members of YAPP. Ryan spoke about attending an inspiring rally in Mineola with people from all different backgrounds and customs to protest the County's cuts toward young adult programs. Meghan spoke about being nominated to go to Albany as a representative of the youth of Nassau County to speak with legislators and advocate against a block grant that would dismantle the youth bureau structure. They both talked about making friends with people through YAPP whom they would not have otherwise known and working together to complete a successful project about acting responsibly as teenagers. As part of their project they filmed a documentary about the consequences of irresponsible and poor choices.
