Adelphi University Associate Professor Yula Serpanos The New York State Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NYSSLHA) has presented Adelphi University Associate Professor Yula Serpanos with the 2009 Distinguished Achievement Award for her contributions to the field of communication sciences and disorders. She received the award at the annual NYSSLHA convention this past May, in Saratoga Springs, New York.

Dr. Serpanos has played a vital role in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Adelphi as a faculty member and past department chair. She also serves as the coordinator of the Long Island Doctor of Audiology Consortium Program, which includes Adelphi, Hofstra, and St. John's Universities.

An authority in her field, Dr. Serpanos has contributed numerous articles to publications such as the peer-reviewed Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, Journal of the American Academy of Audiology, Ear and Hearing, and the American Journal of Audiology. Her research has been recognized as the Best of Audiology Literature by the Hearing Journal.

With a mission of preparing future professionals to asses and treat people of all ages and backgrounds, the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders works to ensure that the highest quality of practice and discipline is applied to the treatment of communication disorders. The department offers four degree programs: bachelor of arts in communication sciences and disorders, master of science in speech-language pathology, doctor of arts in speech-language pathology, and doctor of audiology; all of which equip students with necessary skills for professional endeavors.
