Cathedral Choristers Awards
A special Evensong was celebrated on Sunday June 7, at 4 p.m. to honor individual members of the Cathedral of the Incarnation's choirs for their achievements over the past year. New boy and girl choristers were inducted as full members of the Cathedral Choirs following their initial period as probationers. The new members included Leo D'Auria-Gupta, Marco D'Auria-Gupta, Franco D'Auria-Gupta, Carmine D'Auria-Gupta, Tano D'Auria-Gupta, Erik Thorstenn, Briana Dusling and Mallory Rutigliano.
Two graduating seniors were honored for their years of service to the Choirs. They are Julie Itty and Josh Littlefield. Mallory Rutigliano and Leo D'Auria-Gupta received the Dean's Cross, given to a young chorister who shows great potential as a singer.
The Gold Cross, an award given since 1947 in memory of a choir girl who died suddenly just prior to entering college, was given to Jennifer Itty. The Right Reverend Frederick Burgess Award is given annually to an adult who has greatly helped the work of the Cathedral's music program. This year it was given to George Daniels, a long time parishioner of the Cathedral and strong supporter of the Cathedral's music program. The award was given posthumously as Mr. Daniels passed away just recently.
Sam Newman and Tessa Siegel received awards for excellent attendance. Malread Koehler, Lindsay Lewis and Marco D'Auria-Gupta received awards for having made the most improvement over the past year. Jessica Lombardo and Ian Scott received the Musicianship Award. Julie Itty and Jack Fishman were bestowed the Triangle Award, which acknowledges the combination of excellence in Christian behavior, excellence in attendance and musicianship. The Bishop Burgess Award is given yearly to a chorister between the ages of 13-18 who has excelled at all aspects of choir work. The award was given this year to Sam Newman, Emma Siegel and Rachel Hampton.
The Robert Ludwig Award, established in 2000, is given annually to one or two choristers, who must be seniors in high school, for their Christian example, exemplary attendance and commitment, musicianship, leadership ability and who have attended at least three summer choir camps. The recipient of this award was graduating senior Josh Littlefield.
