St Anne's girls pose for the camera Back in April the kindergarten and first grade girls for the St Annes CYO track team begin their successful 2009 Spring Season. The team was compiled of kindergarten and first grade girls all intent on burning up the track! For many of our little flyers this was their first experience running track. The girls practiced each week at the Garden City High School and ran in meets every weekend that were staged on some of the biggest high school tracks in the county. The team competed against other parishes some as far away as eastern Suffolk county.

Our team was comprised of eleven girls including first graders, Emily Andreuzzi, Gianna Buckley, Julia Merz, Julia Petrowski, Kayla Quinn and kindergarteners, Katie Barker, Hope Gharagozlo, Mollie Landrems, Madeleine O'Connor, Blakely Trapani, and Sabrina Vorbeck.

Coached by track aficionado Yvonne Stewart the girls were in great hands from start to finish. Parents and spectators alike all sensed excitement when the powder blue and white shirted girls from St Annes took the track. The girls competed in 50m and 100m dashes as well as 4X160, 4X200, and 4X300 medley relays. The season culminated with the CYO Championships held at Mitchell Field on Wednesday, June 17th. St Annes captured two medals as well as the most coveted CYO Sportmanship Award.

Hurry! Pass me the baton! I am late for the train!
Hurry! Pass me the baton! I am late for the train! Thank you to all the parents who came out and supported the team as well as to coach Yvonne Stewart for her dedication and encouragement with our little girls. See everyone in the Spring of 2010.
