Back in April the kindergarten and first grade girls for the St Annes CYO track team begin their successful 2009 Spring Season. The team was compiled of kindergarten and first grade girls all intent on burning up the track! For many of our little flyers this was their first experience running track. More ... Contending with a rainout that interrupted the final playoff game, the Junior League Avalanche took to the rink again Monday June 15th and hung tough to win the division championship! The Leprechaun Warriors headed into the PAL Lacrosse Jamboree to face their nemesis Wantagh Warriors on June 14th at Farmindale State U. The Leprechaun Warriors only loss of the season came to the Wantagh team on Mother's Day in a 4-3 loss. With many of the mother's watching this time the boys did not want to disappoint again. More ... This past Monday night, the regular season champion Cardinals defeated the Giants in the National League Championship game, 1-0. With two of the league's best hurlers on the mound, Matt Rogers and Luke Zeccola, both teams were geared up for a pitcher's duel. More ... The girl's varsity track team completed another fine season with a good showing at the Nike Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro, NC last weekend. Six of our finest runners qualified for the meet and were accompanied to North Carolina by coaches Mr. Cuzzo and Ms. Fregosi. More ... Artisan Social F.C., Garden City's new soccer club, will be continuing its training through the summer months. In order to make soccer fit the schedules of families in the community, the club is making sessions available Mondays through Thursdays both in the morning from 8:30-10:30AM and in the afternoon from 4-6PM. Sessions will be held at St. Paul's. More ... The Phillies pulled out a hard fought win against the league leading Marlins to become the Minor League champs on Championship Saturday, June 20th. The team improved their skill as the season moved ahead winning their last 7 regular season and 3 playoff games due to excellent pitching, timely hitting, solid defense, heads up base running and spirited team play. More ... The GCYL's 2nd grade division had more than 80 boys participate during the spring. The division was successfully lead by Mike Sullivan with a tremendous amount of support from coachs: Caluori, Cullen, Griffith, Gunn, Puccio, Ryan, Savino and Shirley and many other assistants and volunteers. Mini Golf Weekend The Garden City Recreation Department is proud to present the Community Park Mini Golf Weekend on Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, June 28, 2009.At various times during the weekend we will have music, games and contests. Junior League Mets season-long march to capture the league championship crown finally ended in victory for the 13 & 14 year old sqaud on Saturday June 20th at the Garden City Pool Field. The Mets not only faced strong teams throughout the entire playoffs, but also had to contend with the rainy weather for what seemed like the entire spring. More ... |
