Students Win Gold At Latin Competition
Eleven Latin students from Garden City High School won awards in the 2009 Latin Certamen competition. The Certamen is an annual academic competition for Latin students from across Long Island. This year's competition was held at Stony Brook University in late spring. Teams comprising all levels of study answered questions, with a final round determining the winner. Pictured here are members of the winning, Summa Cum Laude, Advanced Level team, Michael Wess and Bridgit Digan with Latin teacher Ms. Linda Fabrizio. Absent from the photo are Lauren Fochesto and Elizabeth Slattery. Team members winning 2nd place at Level III, Magna Cum Laude, were Nicole D'Angelo, Jane Furey, Emiley Lam, and Mariah Pewarski. In Level II, Cum Laude, the winning team members were Michael D'Antonio, Jan Gong, and Michael Mongelli. Garden City Latin students have competed in this event since 2003 and continue to earn many awards for their excellence against other Latin teams. Congratulations to this year's winning Certamen teams!
