St. Joseph School To Celebrate 70 Years of Excellence
SJS First Graduating Class
In September 1939 the first "first day" of school began for students at Saint Joseph School, Garden City. Sister Mary Justine O'Loughlin welcomed 169 students in grades K through 6 and a tradition of excellence in Catholic education was born.
"There can be no more important lesson than teaching the message of Christ and making our youth truly aware of the difference between right and wrong." These words spoken by parishioner Dr. Joseph Stall upon the founding of the school still hold true today, and St. Joseph students from nursery through 8th grade are taught and live this important lesson daily.
St. Joseph School has been providing quality Catholic education for 70 years. Through the dedication of scores of educators, clergy, and parishioners, St. Joseph School has helped prepare thousands of students to meet the moral challenges encountered by each generation of student.
September 2009 will begin a year-long celebration in thanksgiving for those 70 years in which St. Joseph School has served its students, the parish, Garden City and the surrounding communities.
The celebration will begin with the St. Joseph School 70th Anniversary Gala to be held on Saturday, October 17th, 2009. This event will include a mass at 5:00pm to be followed by a Cocktail Party, Buffet Dinner Dance and School Tours. All those who have attended or supported St. Joseph School are invited to the celebration. This special evening will provide an opportunity to meet your grade school friends, and teachers, and to visit your school.
Further information regarding the 70th Anniversary Gala may be obtained at www.st-josephschool.com. All those interested in attending, please email the committee at alumni@st-josephschool.com.
