German Club News
Cheers! The Bavarian Beer Fest is always a fun time for club members.
Members of the Garden City German Club, also known as Garden City Deutsch Verein, have had a very busy season thus far and look forward to the many activities scheduled for the remainder of the year.
The club is an association of adults who regularly attend German festivals. They also attend German-American Night at Eisenhower Park, which this year is scheduled for July 6th, and the annual Steuben Day parade, which will be held on Sept. 19th along New York City's Fifth Avenue. Club members also plan to attend the annual Oktoberfest (Ompahfest) on September 20 in Plattdeutsch Park in Franklin Square and the Christmas Fair (Christkindl Markt), which is held at the same park in December.
Members of the club recently completed study of the German language in an Adult Education class at the Garden City High School taught by Professor Fred Schorn, who is from Berlin, Germany. Classes are offered for adults in the spring and fall.
The club has as its symbol the Bavarian flag and Edelweiss. A wooden plaque is always prominently displayed on the table where the club is sitting at various German feasts by President Frau Joyce Albro of Garden City. New members and visitors are always welcome.
