"A Morsel of Genuine History is a THING SO RARE as to be always valuable,'" Thomas Jefferson wrote The Garden City Historical Society filled Cluett Hall this past week for its St. Paul's Forum. This was reported in last Friday's paper and all of the speakers were very informative and concise. Many adjourned to the Historical Society's House Museum for refreshments and more dialogue with the speakers. Congratulations to Brian Pinnola for putting together that evening. Among those attending were Kris and Frank Harder, Gloria Jones, Blanche Volz, Barbara Haynes and George Salem. A number of Village Trustees and Officials were also in attendance that shows how people in today's world do want to be informed in detail about what concerns them.

And the RAIN goes on. It did not wash out the ladies/lunch bridge at the Garden City Country Club last Thursday but it did do a number on the U.S. Open. There were seventy-six ladies enjoying both the luncheon and being inside watching the rain. The first Small Slam of the day was dealt, Bid and made by Nancy Cervini and Marie Thomasidis in Six No Trump. The winner of the Monthly Door Prize was Grace Murphy, who was so happy that she just about danced up to get her prize. Grand Slams do not seem to be made much anymore but there is always hope for next month. Bridge Chairlady Muriel Urban announced that the next Lunch/Bridge would be held on Thursday, July 16th and to be sure to make your reservations for this popular event.

Father's Day was also held under a cloud (a rain cloud) but in spite of it all, families gathered to honor DAD, a happy time for one and all. Dorothy and Ed Alford had the family gather at their house for a pre-Dad's Day Barbeque and to welcome home their son who lives in Florida. He was due to make a presentation at the Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy. They ducked the cooking in between showers and the whole family had a wonderful time.

Dorothy and Ed missed the Seafood Patio Dinner at the Garden City Country Club, but the whole event was moved inside into the main dining room and went off very well. Some of those enjoying the evening were: Anita and Joe Frey, Irene and John Christie, and Janet and Bruce Littlejohn.

Happy birthday wishes go to a former long-time resident and one who was always our Fourth of July lady - Dorothy Holl, who lives out at Peconic Landing but still keeps up with what is going on in this town. Hope you have sparklers on your cake to celebrate, Dorothy and know that you are still thought of and missed by your friends. here.

Marilyn and Fred Camp will be celebrating their wedding anniversary just about the Fourth of July and we wish them a great day and many more happy years of togetherness.

I hear that there are some hearty bridge players who can be found at the Garden City Pool, not swimming, but dealing and bidding at their favorite game. As for me, I'd rather play inside where it is dry and warm but Jackie West and her group just keep warm jackets on and play away. I wonder if I would ever get any swims in.

The folks at the library have been life savers with their wonderful Monday Movies and other events that have a very good group who are always there. Sal Catania and his Board do such a good job of planning things for during the week and even on the weekends. They are to be congratulated for all they give us.

Emily Bradley had a lot to celebrate this past week - a graduation and her birthday all in the same week. Emily graduated on Wednesday, June 24th from Tutor Time School. She will go to Kindergarten in September and she also celebrated her fifth birthday on June 26th. What more can a gal want?

The weather certainly has had me down - two weeks of it or more that always gets me to thinking. This is that I was thinking about recently. The English language is full of confusion. We drive on the parkway and park in the driveway. You all know that a farm will produce produce, that in order to lead you have to get the lead out, and when the garbage dump is full, it has to refuse refuse.

Guess that's enough to confuse you this week. Let us all join hands and pray to see the sun come out and summer come. And maybe we can see each other at the pool.
