4th Grade Girl's Lacrosse Team
4th Grade Girl's Lacrosse Team The girls started the season with four home games which featured quality wins over both Manhasset teams. The second half of the year the girls would clearly be tested with 4 straight away games against Cold Spring Harbor, Wantagh "B", West Islip, and Wantagh "A". In facing an undefeated Cold Spring Harbor team the girls jumped out to a 6-1 advantage early on but the good sportsmanship rule would sway momentum back to CSH. The girls were tied 8-8 with 2 minutes left in the game. A great goal by Celia Concannon and a fantastic save by Maura Mohan seconds before the final whistle preserved a 9-8 victory. Next up was Wantagh "B". Here the girls dominated from the opening faceoff. A combination strong defense, ground balls, as well as crisp passing and catching led to an 8-0 advantage. The girls won 8-3 with goals being scored by Katherine Galzerano (2), Julia Foxen (2) Megan Seel, Kathleen Griffith, Kippy Donavan and Delany Sugrue. Celia had 2 assists while Megan, Katherine, Claire Gallic, and Meredith and Megan Aneser each pick up one. The defense of Tylar Smith, Caroline Kaczynski, Kippy, Mauread Pfaff, and Maura Mohan was outstanding all game. The attack of Megan Aneser , Juliana Russ, Dorothy Durnan, Claire and Sarah Kaval were extremely efficient in picking up many completed passes that led to goals. Alexis Pagonis recorded a shutout in goal during the first half.

Next up was West Islip which was looking to avenge their only loss from last year's unbeaten Garden City squad. The girls were focused on this mid 80's afternoon. The very athletic West Islip team could not match our girl's fight for ground balls and relentless defense. Celia Concannon, Sarah Kaval and Megan Seel shut down 3 great opposing midfielders defensively. Katherine Galzerano dominated draws. Goalie Alex Pagonis played the whole game in blistering heat and had multiple saves. The defense anchored by Kippy, Claire, Mauread, Meredith, Maura, prevented complete passes all game long and their ability double and triple team the ball led to many turnovers. The attack of Kathleen, Juliana, Meegan, Delaney, and Tylar moved the ball well. The girls won 7-4 in a very tough game. Goals were scored by Katherine Galzerano (2), Kathleen Griffith (2), Megan Seel, Celia Concannon, and Sarah Kaval.

Last up was the stronger Wantagh team. The girls appeared over confident to start. They fell behind for the first time all year. In fact, they seemed to forget that hustle, ground balls, defense and unselfish play were the formula that led them to a 7-0 record. The girls were quickly losing 6-2 in the first half before the team called a strategic time out. Garden city scored 2 goals after the timeout and trailed 6-4 at halftime. The team was determined not to ruin a perfect season. The highly motivated girls played outstanding scoring 6 straight goals! The girls won 11-7. The defense did not let up a goal mid way thru the first half to the last minute of the game. Megan Seel, Sarah Kaval, Celia, Katherine, and Julia Foxen played outstanding at midfield. Their collective offense, defense and ground ball pickups were critical. The defense of Kippy Donavan, Claire Gallic, Mauread Pfaff, Caroline Kaczynski, and Meredith played phenomenal denial defense in the 2nd half. The attack Kathleen, Delaney , Juliana Russ worked seamlessly with the midfielders. The goals were score by Katherine (4), Kathleen (3), Celia, Maura, Claire, and Megan. The coaches would like to thank the girls and their parents for a great season.
