Stewart School Disability Awareness Educational Program

2009-06-19 / School

This May, second and third grade students at the Stewart School participated in the "Kids on the Block" disability awareness program presented by the Epilepsy Foundation of Garden City. Through the use of puppetry, students were instructed on the topics of epilepsy, head injuries, and learning disabilities. The program emphasized tolerance and acceptance of all children. Facilitator Janet Romeo used puppetry as a way to communicate the facts about epilepsy in a fun and interactive manner. Students concluded the performance with a sing-along song, "Kids are Different."
