GCHS Student Awarded Hispanic Award
On June 4, 2009, Alexa Gutierrez, a senior at Garden City High School, was presented with the Bronze Award from the Hispanic Heritage Youth Organization in the category of Mathematics and Engineering. Alexa was selected from a pool of approximately 13,000 applicants. She will receive a $1,000 grant to be sent to her school, Northeastern University, where she will be attending in the fall in their Honors program.
The Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards is a national organization that honors young Latino leaders with grants for their college education. The awards are given to graduating high school seniors who maintain an un-weighted 3.5 GPA, or higher, and who demonstrate leadership skills and dedication to community service. The awards celebrate their achievement in the classroom and in the community. Annually, these national awards distribute over $650,000 in grants to almost 300 young Latino leaders.
Congratulations to Alexa on her outstanding achievement!
