Spanish Student Wins First Place In Essay Contest

2009-06-19 / School

Once again, Victoria Chimento, a student in Ms. Marie Nuzzi's Spanish 4H class at Garden City High School, walked away a top winner in the Victor Baptiste Spanish Essay Contest, a competition sponsored annually by the AATSP, the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. This year's theme was, "Los Hispanos en el Mundo de los Deportes" (Hispanics in the World of Sports), and Victoria took first place in both Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

Winning Spanish essay contests is something that Victoria does very well. Last year she placed second in the same contest but with a different theme, and last month she received another first place medal for her winning essay in the 2009 LILT (Long Island Language Teachers) Student Foreign Language Competition. According to Ms. Nuzzi, "I always look forward to Victoria's writing. She makes every effort to incorporate everything we learn in class, and it certainly shows in the quality of her work. Obviously, others see this as well!"

Victoria was honored at a special awards ceremony held at Jericho High School on June 3, 2009.
