Garden City Power Continues Winning Streak

After a rainy week, the sun was shining and the Garden City Power were ready to play the Bayside All Starz at St. Paul's. The team was coming off their fourth win in a row and wanted to come out strong. Within the first five minutes of the game, Emma Gong accurately passed the ball ahead to Gabby Marcoux, part of the front line, which resulted in the Power striking first and leading the All Starz 1-0. The additional front line players of Samantha Auricchio, Fiona MacLeod, and Jamie Silk all showed strength and cohesiveness. The mid - fielders of Angela Coen (2nd half), Emma Gong, Ariana Kerantzas, Claire Murphy, Katie O' Sullivan (1st half), Morgayne Rix and Allison Schmidt were determined and an asset to moving the ball to the offensive side. The defensive line of Sarah Biscardi, Maddy Condulis, Bridget Dean, Katie DeGearo, Nicolette Giammona and Danielle Ventre played tough against the opponent, frustrating the Bayside All Starz by eliminating their scoring opportunities with their excellent ball handling skills. Angela Coen, goalie in the first half, kept the opponent scoreless with her precise goal tending.

Even though the Power had several opportunities to score in the first half, the score was only 1-0 with the start of the second half. The second half began with a flurry of ball movement leading to a breakaway from Gabby Marcoux, scoring her second goal of the game. With the Bayside All Starz maintaining aggressive pressure, the Power continued to up their game and answered the All Starz challenges with a vengeance. Katie O' Sullivan, as goalie in the second half, demonstrated assertiveness by aptly defending anything that came her way! A decisive pass from Allison Schmidt to a well - positioned Gabby Marcoux, led to her third goal and giving Gabby a "hat trick" for the game! What a great comeback from her knee injury! The Power was leading 3 - 0 when the All Starz ended the shut - out by scoring late in the second half. Immediately, the Power retaliated with Fiona MacLeod moving the ball down the field and using her left cross to find the back of the net. The Power successfully defeated the Bayside All Starz 4 - 1 for their fifth straight victory. Alex Manning, although injured, continued to cheer loudly and encourage her teammates from the sidelines. The Power have one more challenge ahead of them, but are hoping to end the season with another win. Good luck Power!
