Jacqui Brattan meets Farmingdale GK!
Jacqui Brattan meets Farmingdale GK! The GC Wildcats have continued their soccer season in LIJSL Division 1 this Spring. On June 6th the Wildcats returned home to Nasssau Haven after six road games and celebrated the annual Centennial Soccerfest with a 4-0 win over Farmingdale. The win extended their record to 13-3-1 since beginning play last Fall. After heavy rains the night before the sun came out and it was game on for girls who were psyched up to bounce back from a 2-1 loss the week before to Albertson, a game the girls felt they had the upper hand in after a slow start. The girls did not have to wait too long this week as first half goals from Jacqui Brattan, Emma Wieland, Devon Heaney, and Kelly Donovan, with nice assits from Megan Seel and Taylor Gladd, sent them to halftime up 4-0. First half goalie Kelly George was very solid as Farmingdale was unable to score on a Penalty Kick and an indirect kick from the six yard box. Kelly G also sent long punts down the field which opened up Farmingdales defense. With the comfortable lead the team focused on playing more possession soccer in the second half. Goalie Marlee Rich, after playing a nice role as sweeper in the first half, was called upon to make some nice plays in goal and kept the clean sheet. Gabriella Rogers moved over to the sweeper role and did a fine job taking punts out of the air and distributing the ball down the flanks. Celia Concannon and Maggie Casey combined for some nice soccer as GC controlled the middle of the field. Kate Farrell, who scored a nice goal and wrought havoc on Albertson the week before, was strong in the tackle this week and created several nice moves into open space. Next week the team travels to Harbor Links for a game against the # 1 ranked Albertson Red 98 Fury with a trip to Hershey PA for the 2009 kicks4kids Hershey Invitational Tournament coming up June 20-21 ! Go GC, Go GC Go !!
