SEPTA Spring Fair Will No Longer Be Held
      Garden City Special Education PTA will not be holding the annual SEPTA Spring Fair on Friday, June 12th. Unfortunately, due to current restrictions by the New York State PTA which severely limit the type of activities allowable at the Seventh Street Spring Fair, SEPTA will no longer be able to sponsor the fair.

Kickline Holds Car Wash
      They perform weekly at halftime during football and basketball games. They have spectators clapping in awe and amazement in the stands. They unite the community. Collectively, they are Garden City High School Lady Trojans Kickline team.

      Nicholas Vernice , a Garden City Middle School seventh grader, was honored by the New York State PTA for his interpretation of this year's theme, "WOW".

Attention GCHS Seniors
      The Garden City Community Council on Substance Abuse and Violence Prevention and the PTA will be sponsoring the fourth annual Prom-a-palooza, a pre-prom event for all prom attendees and their families on Thursday, June 25th at 6PM! Come students, dates, families and extended families and enjoy mixing and mingling as a start to a fabulous and memorable evening.

      The Garden City Student Aid and Scholarship Fund is pleased to announce that Katherine H. Castronovo has been selected as the 2009 recipient of the Fund's Julia Maloney Scholarship. Katherine is the twelfth Garden City High School senior to receive this prestigious award.

Band And Late Night Jazz Ensemble Place First
      The Eighth Grade Band, under the direction of Mrs. Martha Boonshaft, and the Late Night Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Mrs. Jennifer Iovino, received high marks at the 2009 Music in the Parks Competition held at New Jersey's Six Flags Great Adventure Theme Park in early May. The Band performed two works from their concert entitled, "Fiesta De Los Bravos" and "Black Granite II.

Public Schools Textbook Returns
      Garden City Public Schools, 56 Cathedral Avenue, will accept textbook returns Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Administration Building. All textbooks are due back to the district by Tuesday, June 30th. Please be advised that it may not be possible to pick-up textbooks for the next school year when returning textbooks.

Spring Carnival Date Changed
      The Andy Club Spring Carnival has been moved to June 19th at the GCHS practice fields from 4pm till 6pm. Student in grades 1st - 5th are invited it is $10.00 per student and all funds raised will go to Charlie's Champions. All students must be accompanied by an adult. Come have some fun and win some prizes!!

High School Senior Boys Attend Men's Health Program
      Garden City High School senior boys recently attended the annual Men's Health Awareness Program in the high school library. This seminar was coordinated by the high school nurses, Mrs. Eileen Wyremski, R.N. and Mrs. Karen Boelsen, R.N. The educational program focused on testicular cancer education and the importance of testicular self-examination.

Poet Laureate Winners Honored By Board Of Education
      Ten district students were honored at the May meeting of the Garden City Public Schools Board of Education for their achievements in the 2009 Nassau County Poet Laureate Contest. This year's competition included 2,000 entries from 76 schools in Nassau County.

      A fine "state" of affairs recently took place at the Stratford School when Mrs. Victoria Tomasheski's second grade class completed a comprehensive research project and shared their results with parents, teachers, and district administrators.

SJS Mother Son Luau
      The fathers and daughters danced the night away, and now the mothers and sons of St. Joseph School were treated to a tropical evening of games and dinner. Co-chairs Debbie Hayden and Lorraine Reynolds transformed the gym and cafeteria into a cool and breezy beach and the boys and their moms competed against eachother in the gym and were amazed by the roaming magician during dinner.

Stewart And Stratford School Poster Contest Winners
      Six Foreign Language in Elementary School (FLES) students from Stewart and Stratford Schools were recently named as winners in the 2009 American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) Poster Contest. Students from 37 states, as well as from India and Israel, entered the competition, making this year's contest truly an international one.

Garden City Students Study The Physics Of Roller Coasters
      Fifty Garden City high schoolers recently visited Great Adventure for "Physics Day," an annual one-day event when only physics students are allowed to enter the park. Students study the forces generated by several rides including the ornate carousel and, of course, the giant roller coasters.

Spring Events At St. Anne's
      Two Spring traditions took place at St. Anne's School in the last few weeks. On May 27 the school band and chorus performed in the Spring Concert. The school band under the direction of Miss Behr performed in sections of Beginner Band, Experienced Band and Wind Ensemble. Chorus members from grades 3-7 sang a delightful collection of music under the direction of Mr. Caltabiano.
