Irish novelist Tom Phelan will read from his novels at the Summer Gazebo Readings in Oceanside on Monday, June 15, at 7 p.m. The readings will take place on Schoolhouse Green, located on Foxhurst Road, just east of Long Beach Road. Tom Phelan is a retired member of the Garden City High School guidance department.

Tom Phelan, a 2008-2009 Christopher Isherwood Foundation Fellow, is the author of the novels The Canal Bridge, In the Season of the Daisies, Iscariot, and Derrycloney. His upcoming novel, Nailer, deals with a man determined to get justice, is set against the backdrop of Ireland's abusive industrial school system and the church/state collusion that allowed it to flourish.

The Summer Gazebo Readings, featuring four writers each evening, are sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Oceanside and are held each Monday evening in June, July, and August. Scheduled readers include some of Long Island's most prestigious poets and fiction and nonfiction writers.

The Summer Gazebo Readings are held outdoors; seating is limited so attendees should bring a lawn chair or a blanket. The grounds are open, and the public is encouraged to come early and have a quiet summer's picnic on the grounds. Admission is free.
