The Scouts unpack the brand new tents with other members of the Order of the Arrow Cub Scout Pack 55 went to Camp Schiff this weekend to put up 3 large, tents especially designed for long time camping by Scouts. These tents and cots will be used for years to come by the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of Garden City and Long Islanders everywhere! Each of these tents sleep 4 kids on cots (we donated 4 cots, too!) and are put up on platforms for the whole summer at Camp Schiff in Wading River, LI.

The Pack sold popcorn this year as a fundraiser to help support scouting, and the Scouts did such a great job, that we had enough extra to donate some money back to the Camp that Long Island scouts use. Thanks to all of our Garden City neighbors who bought popcorn from us, so that we can all in turn support Scouting. The Popcorn sale helps support our Pack, plus the larger Theodore Roosevelt Council that supports all of our Camps and local activities. Steven Slovensky, Kevin Donohue, Corey Laisure and John O'hare represented the Pack and put up the tents we donated and set up the cots. Andrew Quigley, their den chief from Troop 55, helped teach them the knots they needed to know to do the job right. Great job, boys!

Pack 55 and Andrew Scott on the Schiff Wall of Honor! This weekend was an Order of the Arrow work weekend where Scouts who are part of the National Honor Society of Scouting do Community Service for the Camp. As part of that weekend, we were very excited to witness a special ceremony where they honor "Scouters" who have given a lot of time to Scouting. Among these honorees was Don Belger, Scoutmaster of Troop 55. We also had a plaque put up on the Wall of Honor acknowledging Pack 55's gift of the Tents, and Andrew Scott, our retiring Cubmaster, who also received a spot on the Wall of Honor for being such a great Cubmaster to Pack 55, staying on even after his son graduated the Pack! Thanks Mr. Scott!

All in all, it was a great weekend. Thanks again to our Garden City neighbors for supporting Scouting.
