For those of you who have been in doubt as to whether the Farmer's Market is back with us, the answer is YES! it is are open every Tuesday between 7 and 7:30 a.m. and close at 1 p.m. They are in its usual position, in back of the Supreme Court Building and the parking is great. Among the things they have are fresh vegetables, fruit (they had L.I. strawberries last week and they were great), honey, pasta, fresh caught fish, plants, fresh baked crusty bread and much more. It all comes in from Long Island farms and you can't get fresher than that. See you there!

Marilyn Schmachtenberg of the Women's Auxiliary of the American Legion Post in town passed on the sad news to the members that the World War II Veteran that they had been visiting and taking gifts to on his birthday and Christmas passed away recently. He had spent forty-six years in the Northport VA Hospital and the visits by the ladies really put some happiness into his life. Those ladies - God bless them - do an outstanding job for our veterans in so many ways.

June has always been a time for weddings and for many of our citizens it is also a season for graduations. Les and Marge Schnell just got back from attending not just one, but two graduations of their grandchildren and I hear there are more to come. It's always nice when grandparents can make these events as they are very important to the graduates and the grandparents get to see so many interesting places.

Happy birthday wishes go to Herb Polak who celebrates his special day on the 20th of this month and to Eda Meglio, who does the same just about now. May you both have a great day and a year filled with good health and much happiness with many more years to come.

June is also wedding anniversary time and we wish the following couples much happiness and many more years of wedded bliss.

Irene and John Christie will be celebrating their 59th anniversary on the 17th of June. Maureen and Cummin Clancy will mark their 55th Anniversary on the 19th, and last but not least Ellen and Brian Ridgway will be doing the same type of celebration on June 20th. All our best wishes go to the happy couples.

The Garden City Country Club held its monthly Dinner/Bridge on Wednesday, June 3rd and all involved enjoyed a delicious seated dinner followed by an evening of bridge. The rain must have washed away all the luck that evening as there was no Small Slam as well as no Grand Slam. Guess the luck was in not being out in the rain. Bridge Chairlady Muriel Urban announced that the next event would be held on Wednesday, July 1st and to be sure to make your reservations.

Dorothy and Ed Alford, just back from Florida, will be welcoming their son who lives full time in the Sunshine State. He will be giving a speech at his Alma Mater - King's Point Merchant Marine Academy - at a special convocation next week. Dot and Ed are hoping fro a long weekend visit with him. There is nothing nicer than to welcome home a child who lives out of state.

The ladies of the Garden City Country Clubs Women's Club, under the direction of Eileen Caruso, will be having a busy week coming up. On June 9th they will play a Cross-Over Tournament followed up on Thursday, June 11th by their Ladies Member-Guest Tournament. On Friday, June 12th, many of them will also participate in the first Twilight Golf session for this season. Nancy Kiley and Mary Hickey co-chair the 18th Hole Tournaments and Karen Risi and Maryclair Leistman are the co-chairs of the NIne Hole Tournaments. For the 18 hole Tournament Committee, Co-Chairs Marilyn O'Grady, Jeanne Rohrbach, and Ginny Erhardt also serve. What an active group they are.

This week ended on another sad note with the passing of Judy Soba. She had lived in Garden City a long time, raised her children here, and was a wonderful volunteer in her church. The PTA, and at Winthrop Hospital as it was known then. Judy was always ready to lend a helping hand, to do jobs that nobody else wanted to do, and she did them with a graciousness and a smile. She will be missed by all who knew her. Our thoughts are prayers go to her daughter and son and to their families.

See you next week!
