Back Row: Elisabeth McGannon, Danielle Kelly, Olivia Giarraputo, Mr. Strysko, Bridget Strysko, Front Row: Cristin Crowley, Cassandra Cheng and Anna Schaubeck Troop 1459, a fifth grade Junior Troop, has just completed 6 years of scouting together and for their final project, which will earn them their Girl Scout Bronze Award, they built, painted and decorated 2 bookcases to be donated to the newly refurbished tennis bubble at Community Park. Along with the bookcases, the girls collected enough books to fill them for others to enjoy. Special thanks to their fearless leader in building this project, Tom Strysko.

Through the years, the girls have taken community service very seriously and have donated to many charitable causes. Instead of collecting dues at their monthly meetings, the troop established a tradition of having a "cause of the month". One month they donated crayons and coloring books to the children at Winthrop Hospital, another month they might have donated soup and pasta to the St. Anne's Loaves and Fishes pantry, and one month they donated money to a group at Winthrop Hospital known as "The Precious Purls" whose mission it is to knit blankets and hats for the premature babies born at that hospital. There were also the families that were adopted for the holidays, the meals that were shopped for, the cookies and cards for the soldiers and the items that were sent to the Mary Brennan Inn. Those are just a few of the many causes that benefited from the girls' generous hearts over the years. Great job girls!"
