Varsity Softball Senior Day
The Seniors: Kelly Donnelly, Claire DeLanno and Dorothy Neimira.
On May 15, the Garden City Varsity Softball Team celebrated Senior Day. The seniors, Erin Donnelly (4 years on the squad), Dorothy Neimira (4 years on the squad) and Claire De Lannoy (2 years on the squad) received flowers and giftbags and enjoyed some very nice treats after the game (thank you Mrs. Matuza). The girls also received beautiful self portraits from freshman Amanda Ferraro. Amanda better start drawing now for next year, as there are 6 juniors on the team! Unfortunately the team lost that day to Oyster Bay 8-5. The team was not down for long as they enjoyed a big win when they traveled to Locust Valley on Monday, May 18. Next up, the Class A first round playoffs began on May 21 at Glen Cove (seventh seed). Garden City was the tenth seed. The girls celebrated a big win. 13-3. Samantha Trapasso went 2-for-5 with a three-run homer. Dorothy Niemira went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs and Brigid Reina went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs. Samantha Trapasso allowed three runs - two earned - on nine hits with five strikeouts and one walk in a complete game. The girls went on the play the second seed, Floral Park on Saturday, May 23. The girls had many fans at the game but lost to Floral Park 9-1.
