This past Sunday, the third grade boys' Blue lacrosse team took on the Oyster Bay Rough Riders at St. Paul's. The Rough Riders got off to very fast start, and despite several saves by first half goalie Liam Glynn and tough defense by the GC team, their opponents outstanding passing and powerful shots quickly resulted in a 4-0 deficit. The Girl's Varsity track team, led by Emily Menges, notched another major accomplishment this season with a qualifying time in the 4x400 meter relay for the Reebok Grand Prix at Icahn Stadium. The Trojan's had qualified with a time of 3:55.2 at St. Anthony's, and bettered that mark with a school record 3:52.5 at the Loucks Games earlier this month. More ... The Third Grade Girls Maroon team bounced back with a big win this past Sunday. After a tough loss to Manhasset in their last outing, the girls played with renewed determination and skill and defeated Huntington Hills, 9-5 with a true team effort. More ... The U10 Garden City Pythons just completed a four game sweep in the Port Washington Memorial Day Weekend Tournament to take home the title. The boys played outstanding throughout the weekend in beating teams from Franklin Square, Hicksville and Port Washington twice. More ... On May 15, the Garden City Varsity Softball Team celebrated Senior Day. The seniors, Erin Donnelly (4 years on the squad), Dorothy Neimira (4 years on the squad) and Claire De Lannoy (2 years on the squad) received flowers and giftbags and enjoyed some very nice treats after the game (thank you Mrs. Matuza). The girls also received beautiful self portraits from freshman Amanda Ferraro. More ... The Roslyn Rangers came to Garden City this past Sunday to square off against U9 Garden City FIRE team. This was a rematch of the opening day spring season where the teams split two hotly contested games. However the improving FIRE team has been on a roll and this week was no exception. More ... For the third time in four years, Garden City's girls golf team has won the Long Island Championship. To get to the LI Championship, the girls first had to beat Syosset for the Nassau title. From there, they advanced to the LI Championship where they defeated Smithtown West 459-474 on Tuesday May 26th at Eisenhower Red. More ... It was a beautiful spring day when the Garden City Power came to play the Albertson Tigers at Harbor Links. The mood of the Power was positive and determined to keep their winning streak alive. With a very tough season in Division 2 nearing its end, the U-12 GC Warriors took the field against an unknown team from East Islip this past Saturday and matched them pound for pound, hit for hit, in what turned out to be a very physical match. The boys played not only a better game of soccer, but they also proved that they could run until the final whistle. More ... With a beautiful blue-sky overhead, the GC Xtreme hosted the Syosset 96 Arsenal at St Pauls last Saturday. The two teams know each other well and have built a friendly rivalry. As the match started, the Xtreme got off to awesome start and had the Arsenal under tremendous pressure. Winning one ball after another, the team got forward moving the ball down the sides of the field. More ... Over the Memorial Day holiday weekend, the Garden City Sparks (Girls U-13) traveled to the Fairfax/Manassas/Springfield, Virginia area, just outside of Washington, DC, to play in the Virginian soccer tournament. Playing the entire Tournament in 85 degree weather without any subs, the Sparks took home the championship cup for the Premier Silver Division. More ... Garden City's boys lacrosse team advanced to the Nassau County final with a 9-4 semi final win over Plainedge on May 28th. Tom Gordon scored three goals for the Trojans as Will Fuller and Devin Dwyer each added two goals and one assist. Patric Berkery also scored for GC and added two assists. Jared Mitchell had one goal. More ... With a 15-8 win over Wantagh on Tuesday, Garden City's girls lacrosse team won their 5th straight Nassau Class B title. The Trojans will face either Sayville or Rocky Point for the LI Championship title on Saturday evening June 6th at 8pm at Hofstra. Shannon Mangini and Emily Norell each had four goals and an assist for GC. More ... The members St. Anne's Track Team have been working hard this Spring. They have successfully participated in three local meets and are now training for the CYO Qualifiers which are being held on June 4th and 5th at Mitchell Field. With at least three more meets, and hopefully the CYO Championships still to come, these young stars have their work cut out for them in the weeks ahead. More ... It was the GC Renegades first time participating in the SWR Lax Fest so we were not sure what to expect. We were also going up against 3 teams we have never seen before so we really did not know what was going to happen. All I can say is GOALTENDING, GOALTENDING, GOALTENDING was great all day. Connor Brown and Greg Gardner both played awesome all 3 games. More ...
