GCHS Student Wins Comptroller Achievement Award
Nassau County Comptroller Howard Weitzman recently awarded Jonathan Zarkin from Garden City High School with the 2009 Comptroller Achievement Award. This is the 7th year that Weitzman has presented his Comptroller Achievement Awards, which honor students who excel in economics, accounting or finance, and who have demonstrated a commitment to community service.
Jonathan Zarkin received the award at his school's annual senior awards program. Award winners also receive a certificate of achievement and a special gift chosen by the Comptroller. Jonathan has successfully endured a challenging academic program that included AP Politics and will graduate with an Advanced Reagents Diploma.
Students are nominated by the high schools and winners will have an opportunity to apply for a paid summer internship in the Comptroller's Office during their college years. Several Comptroller Achievement Award winners have been chosen for intern positions and contributed substantially to major projects conducted by the Comptroller's Office.
"The young people who receive the Comptroller Achievement award are some of the best and brightest we have in Nassau," said Comptroller Weitzman. "The internship program they are considered for is highly competitive, and we pick the most motivated students we can find. A lot of the award recipients definitely fit the bill."
