Troop 55 Eagle Scout Honored
      Zachary LaRose is congratulated by Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi for reaching the rank of Eagle in Troop 55. Zachary's Eagle project benefited the Race Track Chaplaincy of America, New York Division and Anna's House at Belmont in Elmont.

      The Garden City Pool Opens for its 53 rd year of "Fun In The Sun". Applications were mailed to all homes in the Village. You should have recently received your application brochure for the Pool. If you have already joined we thank you, but if you are not quite sure about joining we hope to make your decision a little easier, we invite you to try the facility out during our Open House.

Cathedral Participates In Heifer International Project
      The Cathedral of the Incarnation has once again decided to participate in the Heifer International Project. A bake sale will be held on Sunday, June 7 at 10:30 a.m. in the undercroft of the Cathedral to raise money for this worthwhile cause. Heifer International is a non-profit organization whose goal is to help end world hunger and poverty through self-reliance & sustainability.

Garden City PTA Sportswear Sale
      The GCPTA will have a sportswear table set up this Saturday, June 6th from 9:30-3:00 at Soccerfest on the fields of St. Paul's. We have an assortment t-shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, shorts, blankets and hats. There will also be sale tables set up of previous years merchandise. Come by and check it out next to the refreshment hut.

Pack 55 Floats Along The Parade
      The Cub Scouts of Pack 55 proudly marched in the annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 25.The scouts and their den leaders marched and carried flags to honor all those who have served America in the United States Military. Leading the Pack, was the official Pack 55 float which showcased one the activities most associated with scouting, camping.

Andy Club Spring Carnival
      The Andy Club will hold a Spring Carnival on Saturday, June 20th from 11:00am till 1:00pm on the GCHS Practice Fields. Students grades 1st - 5th are invited. There will be games, water balloon toss, face painting, prizes and a bake sale.

Scout Collects Musical Instruments
      Garden City Boy Scout Charlie Eschmann, of Troop #243, is working on his Eagle Scout Project by collecting 50-65 new and or gently used musical instruments for St. Martins Deporres School in Uniondale. He has already collected 18 instruments including a drum set, snare drum, saxophone, clarinet, accordion, keyboards and guitars.

Black and White Ball Benefits Cancer Center For Kids
      On Saturday evening, April 25, The Cancer Center for Kids (CCFK) at Winthrop-University Hospital held its Third Annual Black and White Ball at the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City, New York. Close to 350 guests helped raise over $240,000 for the CCFK's psychosocial and creative arts therapy programs.

Talent Search Winners
      Garden City resident Christopher White, a sixth grade student at the Green Vale School in Old Brookville, was just named a state winner in the 2009 Johns Hopkins Talent Search for both the verbal and math SCAT test scores he earned this spring. Six Green Vale School students, based on their exceptional scores on SCAT and SAT exams, are winners in the 2009 Johns Hopkins Talent Search.

Cathedral Book Club
      The Cathedral Book Club is currently reading The Shack by William P. Young. This book is about a daughter abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack. Four years later, the father receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend.

Troop 80 Backpacks In Harriman State Park
      The Scouts of Troop 80, Garden City threw on their back packs and started up the trail to the Lemon Squeezer in Harriman State Park, NY on May 16 2009. The day was foggy but spirits were high for the 10 mile trek. They also took a side trip to the Boston Mine which is located on the Dunning Trail. The mine was last used in 1880.

      Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Petralia of Garden City are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Annalisa to Erik Klebers. Participates In Discussion On Babylift
      Local resident Lana Noone recently organized and participated in a 34th Anniversary Vietnam "Operation Babylift" (OBL) Program at the Smithsonian's Hirshhorn Museum on the Mall in Washington, DC. The distinguished Panel included Vietnam Veterans and civilians who organized OBL, Lana's daughter Jennifer Nguyen Noone (the final baby placed via OBL in 1975) and Mrs. Noone.

Reverend Adelmann Begins Sabbatical Leave
      The Reverend James Adelmann of the Garden City Community Church will be taking his fourth sabbatical since being called in May of 1980 .He will spend a few weeks at the Ghost Ranch, a Presbyterian-owned retreat center, in Abiquiu, New Mexico. Garden City Community Church VBS 2009
      This year's program promises to be fun for all participants as we explore Discovery Canyon and the Wonders of the World. Classes are for pre-school through 4th grade and campers do not have to be church members to attend. We will have arts & crafts, snacks, music, stories, outdoor recreation and many other exciting activities. The program runs 9-12 June 29th through July 2nd.

      The Garden City Public Library has added a color copier to the photocopying services that are available to the public. Patrons will be able to make color photocopies for special projects and school reports. Copies cost one dollar per copy. The new color copier is located near the side of the reference office.

      The Garden City Public Library has made arrangements with the U.S. Postal Service to send representatives to help people fill out required forms and process passport applications. You must bring the necessary pieces of information: proof of citizenship, a current photo I.D., and two passport photos. (You can have passport photos taken on the spot for $15.00).
