Boys Lacrosse In Playoffs

In the first round of the Nassau County Class B boys lacrosse playoffs, Garden City hosted Mepham on Wednesday afternoon May 20th. Devin Dwyer led the scoring for GC with three goals and two assists as the Trojans went on to win 15-0. Also scoring for GC were: Will Fuller, 2 goals and two assists, Jared Mitchell, 2 goals, Conor Dwyer, 1 goal and 1 assist, Tom Gordon, 1 goal, Matt Montgomery, 1 goal, Jim Kenny, 1 goal, Patric Berkery, 1 goal, Dan LoSardo, 1 goal, Jack Spencer, 1 goal, and Vin Chiodo, 1 goal. Assists for GC: Mike Lind, 2; Stephen Jahelka, 1; and Kevin Dachille, 1; . Four different players were in goal for the Trojans: Brendan Engelke, 2 saves; Chris Connors, 2 saves; Tim Moynihan, 1 save; Alex Castronovo, 1 save.
The win over Mepham advanced the Trojans to the quarterfinal game against Calhoun on Tuesday evening May 26th at Hofstra's Shuart Stadium. Earlier in the season the Trojans had a convincing 13-6 victory over Calhoun. It looked like things were going that way again for the Trojans as Garden City held a 5-1 lead at the half. Calhoun tried to make it close with a few second half goals but the Trojans went on to win 8-5. GC's Tom Gordon led all scoring with three goals. Conor Dwyer had two goals as his younger brother, Devin, had one goal and four assists. Vin Chiodo and Patric Berkery also scored for GC. Getting the assists for the Trojans were Will Fuller with three and Jim Kenny with one. Chris Connors made six saves in goal for the Trojans who advanced to the semi-final against No. 4 Plainedge on Thursday night May 28th.
