Free Drug Discount Card
Assemblyman Thomas McKevitt (R,C,I - East Meadow) would like to inform his constituents about the New York Prescription Saver. This free discount card, which was introduced by the New York State Department of Health, can reduce the cost of prescriptions for lower income NYS residents. "With the harsh economy that we are all experiencing right now, it is important that my constituents should not have to chose between getting their prescriptions or paying their bills", stated the Assemblyman.
New York State is now working with a network of over 3,700 pharmacies and manufacturers to help lower the cost of prescription drugs. The New York Prescription Saver (NYP$) was first implemented in 2008 allowing members to save as much as 60 percent on generic drugs and 30 percent on brand name drugs. Any persons between the ages of 50 to 64 years old, or anyone with a disability, which has been determined by the Social Security Administration, regardless of age are eligible to become New York Prescription Saver members. All eligible members must currently be without prescription coverage and do not possess Medicaid coverage. "I encourage all constituents who may be eligible for this program to take advantage of this great opportunity. It is a priority of mine to keep all my constituents healthy and support all programs that will help aid in their well-being".
Individuals who meet the proper requirements can use their card at all participating pharmacies. To apply to be a member of NYP$ you can call the toll-free Helpline at 1-800-788-6917 or visit http://nyprescriptionsaver.fhsc.com, for an application or to see participating pharmacies and the discounted prices for drugs.
