Alison Holfester goes 1 v 1. After a tightly contested match in the Waldbaums Cup, the Garden City Xtreme and Massapequa Explosion faced off again on Saturday at Soccer Park in league play. This match was very similar to the first. A very quick pace, with two very athletic teams displaying great skill. In the end, the Explosions capitalized on two of their corners and won the match 2-0.

Maybe because the two teams had played a few weeks before, from the opening whistle the teams went right at each other. No five minutes of play in the middle third seeing what the other team's got, each team went to goal strongly trying to get the lead. Connecting one pass after another, the Xtreme built up some good scoring chances early in the match. Twelve minutes in, Kristin Adams found Colette Seel open at the top of the box. Colette drove a bullet of a shot, but the Massapequa keeper made a great save to keep it at 0-0. The end-to-end action never stopped throughout the half. The team was down 1-0 at halftime but had every intention of coming back to at least tie the match.

The Fish worked double duty on Saturday, minding the goal for both halves. Laurel's decision making was flawless. She came off her line when needed and stayed between the posts when facing some very hard drives from the Massapequa team. As the half progressed, the Xtreme knew each battle for possession was imperative. The team dug down deep and started winning a great percentage of unposessed balls, but couldn't break through for the equalizer.

Kelsey Whitney goes after the 50/50 ball. It's off to Fishkill for Memorial Day where the team looks forward to playing some new teams from another region.
