Elizabeth McKay and another great punt
Elizabeth McKay and another great punt On Saturday afternoon the Shooting Stars took their game on the road and played to a tie in an epic battle of will vs. Plainedge - Old Bethpage.

P-O.B. got off quickly, scoring on the opening kickoff and then again only a few minutes later to go up 2-0. The Shooting Stars never lost heart however. With the urging of their coaches and diehard fans, the Stars revved up the intensity level.

Elizabeth McKay began the Stars storm back, taking advantage of tremendous footwork skills to deliver the first goal of the afternoon for the Stars. Quickly that turned back into a two goal lead with P.O.B storming downfield and delivering their third and final goal of the game. From then on out, the tremendous defensive play of Catherine Lori, Eileen Farrell and Julia Foxen as well as goalie Cate Schick, took control of their end of the field, and kept their opponent shut down for the remainder of the first half. Meredith Aneser pulled the Stars closer, with a perfectly placed shot to close the gap to 3-2 going into halftime.

A Catherine Lori blast
A Catherine Lori blast In the second half, the intensity level ratcheted up, and back and forth the team played hard. The Stars continued to apply pressure. The offense of Dominique Dragotto, Cate Schick, Caitlyn Etienne and Annie Crowley continuously challenged the outstanding P.O.B goaltender. The opposing goalie answered every offensive charge with strong net play and unleashed tremendous punts sparking the POB offense downfield. Time after time Elizabeth Mc Kay, keeping goal in the second half, made great saves while being pressured, pushed and even run over by the hard charging POB offense.

Late in the second half, Annie Crowley gained control of the ball and took off downfield. After Crowley's first shot was stopped, Bridget Shea and Crowley applied more pressure, with Annie Crowley eventually firing one into the corner of the net for the tying goal!

The game was a tremendous overall effort by the Shooting Stars. They played extremely hard. When being subbed out, they came off the field bruised, battered and semi-exhausted. No worries here, the Stars were being handled on their breaks by their injured/sidelined teammate Hannah Ardito. Carefully nursing wounds, hydrating the Stars and motivating them to take control, Hannah was critical to helping the outcome of the game. The Stars look forward to Hannah Ardito and Caroline Munn's return to the pitch following the Memorial Day break.
