GC Fire Baseball Team Attends Ripken Gold Glove Tournament
      On May 2 & 3rd the U9 Garden City FIRE Travel Baseball team headed to Maryland to play at the prestigious Cal Ripken Baseball Complex. The tournament featured some of the best competition from the East Coast with 12 teams at U9 age and 16 teams at u10 age. The FIRE's round robin bracket included The Baltimore Blue Claws, The Mays Landing Muckdogs and the Delaware Diamonds.

Garden City Boys 3rd Grade Blue Lacrosse
      Last Saturday, the third grade boys blue lacrosse team traveled to Suffolk County to take on their opponents from Half Hollow Hills East. The Garden City offense got off to a quick start. Middie Andrew Costigan sprinted into the offensive zone and fired a shot at Hills East's net only to be denied by an outstanding save by the keeper.

Power Cools Off The Valley Stream Heat
      What a game! The Garden City Power took on the Valley Stream Heat this past weekend at their home field ready to win. The Heat displayed great ball skills with excellent passing and teamwork. The Power's defense played strong and hard protecting their goal at all cost. The field was wet and the pace was fast, but the Power rose to the occasion.

GC Force Defeats Plainedge
      The Garden City U-11 girl's Force came home from Plainedge with a well earned 2-0 victory this past Saturday to bring their season record to 3-1-2.The game may have started cold and blustery, but the Force came out hot and dictated the action right from the opening whistle.

Patriettes Battle Manhasset & Floral Park
      This past week the Garden City U12 Patriettes were set to play two league games. The first was Thursday afternoon against the always tough Manhasset Rebels. The Patriettes had been practicing hard the past two weeks on their footwork and moving the ball around to look for the best opportunities.

3rd Grade Boys Scrimmage
      On Friday May 15 the GCYL Pal 3rd Grade Boys got together for scrimmage at the GC High School Turf Field. The sun was out and the boys were ready to bang heads against each other. Three third grade teams split up for some great lacrosse action. The coaches and parents could see this was a preview of things to come in the future(only about 6 more years to go).

Warriors Win Semi-Finals of State Cup Challenge
      After a long layoff from last fall when the GC Warriors reached the quarterfinals of the State Cup challenge, the boys met up with Dix Hills in the semi-finals on Saturday. After going up 2-0 early on in the match, Dix Hills rallied to get within one.

Shooting Stars Battle To Tie In Thriller
      On Saturday afternoon the Shooting Stars took their game on the road and played to a tie in an epic battle of will vs. Plainedge - Old Bethpage. P-O.B. got off quickly, scoring on the opening kickoff and then again only a few minutes later to go up 2-0. The Shooting Stars never lost heart however.

Xtreme Face The Explosion At Soccer Park
      After a tightly contested match in the Waldbaums Cup, the Garden City Xtreme and Massapequa Explosion faced off again on Saturday at Soccer Park in league play. This match was very similar to the first. A very quick pace, with two very athletic teams displaying great skill. In the end, the Explosions capitalized on two of their corners and won the match 2-0.

Boys Varsity Volleyball Wins Conference Title
      Since its opening day loss to Plainedge back on April 2nd, the Garden City High School boys varsity volleyball team went on a torrid winning streak and captured the Conference Championship. GC (11-1, 13-1) and Great Neck North were tied for 1st place until GC sealed the title in a thrilling come from behind win in five grueling sets.

      On Mother's Day weekend the Leprechaun Warriors went on the road to play a very tough and talented Wantagh team. The sun was shining for the Leprechaun Warriors Mothers and the boys were ready to make them proud, however it was not meant to be.

Division Champs - Girls Varsity Track
      The Girls Varsity Track team dominated the Division Championship meet held at Hewlett HS last week scoring 190 points to runners up Hewlett (156) and Roslyn (65). Leading the way for the Trojans were multiple event winners/scorers Michelle Rotondo, Emily Menges, Taryn Schmelzinger, Catherine Cafaro, Jenna DeAngelo and Liz Slattery, as well as a sweep in the three relays.

Garden City Varsity Baseball Plays North Shore
      Before beginning the playoffs, Garden City's baseball team played a non league game against North Shore on Friday afternoon, May 15th.James Cauchi hit an RBI single to give the Trojans a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth. Chris LeMonda was 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs. Pitcher Jon DeMars got the win for the Trojans as they went on to win 5-4.

Annual Cheerleading Clinic A Success
      The Garden City High School Varsity and Junior Varsity cheerleading squads recently hosted more than 150 girls at the third annual cheerleading clinic on Saturday, May 2. Open to children in grades 1 through 5 and held at the GCHS gym, the clinic introduced the girls to the fundamentals of cheerleading.

Boys Varsity Lacrosse Hosts Hewlett
      Garden City's boys lacrosse team played host to the Hewlett Bulldogs on Tuesday afternoon, May 12th. The Trojans had a 6-2 lead going into the half and added five more goals in the second half to go on to win 11-5. Mike Lind and Will Fuller each had three goals for the Trojans. (Fuller also had 3 assists).

Pool Applications
      The applications packets for the Garden City Pool were mailed last week, if you have not received one please come to either the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Avenue or the Pool Office to pick one up. We ask the residents bring with them a current utility bill as well as a picture identification to receive a replacement application packet.

GCHS Twins Score Big At Tennis Tournament
      Zach and Alex Morris, twin brothers and sophomores at Garden City High School, competed as singles players in the Nassau County Tennis Championships held at Oceanside High School May 9th and 10th. Alex succeeded at winning his first two matches and made it to the round 16 before falling to the number 6 seed in the tournament.
