Garden City High School students, teachers and program presenters took a moment to share their enthusiasm at the conclusion of the Challenge Day program. Ninth grade students recently volunteered to participate in Challenge Day, a full day of activities and workshops led by a team of professionals to teach students and their teachers how to increase tolerance and acceptance, and to stop the social isolation and bullying which can occur in high school. Through a variety of activities, the program addressed how students can identify and deal with negative behaviors such as cliques, gossip, rumors, teasing, harassment, isolation, stereotypes, intolerance, racism, sexism, bullying, and violence. Challenge Day guidelines espoused throughout the day included: be inclusive; no putdowns or teasing; compliments and love are encouraged; listen with your ears and heart; be open-minded; get real, and be the change you wish to see in the world.

"I loved Challenge Day," one participant commented, "It was the best day of my life." Other Garden City students shared the enthusiasm for the program: "Everyone is special and deserves respect!"; "I promised that I would think about my actions before I do them, in hopes of making better decisions"; "I made a commitment not to judge others and to change the way I live my life for the better"; and "I think if everyone can do this, then it will really change the school."
